After a long, cold winter, spring is one of the most exciting times of the year. It’s finally time to end that hibernation and start to enjoy the nice weather, and that involves getting your pool ready for use again. Here are some proper pool maintenance tips to properly open your pool.
How to Start
The first step to re-opening your pool involves dealing with your pool cover. First, you will want to drain the cover, removing as much water as you can from it. If there is a little left, that is not an issue. Next, you want to remove the cover, taking care to let as little water and debris fall into the pool as possible. After the cover is removed, you will want to properly store it, which involves letting it dry, then sprinkling it with a special formula or talcum powder to prevent mold or mildew buildup.
Reconnect and Refill
The next step involves refilling your pool and reconnecting all of your equipment. Firstly, make sure all of the antifreeze is drained from your lines, and any winterizing plugs are removed. After the pool is refilled to its normal level, and all your equipment is reconnected and ready, you can begin to turn it all back on.
After a long winter, sometimes metals like copper and iron can build up in your pool. Adding a chemical like Metal Free will remove this buildup. After all the equipment is back on and has been running for a few hours, you can test the pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels to make sure your pool is ready. The last step is to take a quick dip in and enjoy having your pool again.
